Island Games by Caleb J. Boyer is an amazing fictional novel. It is made of great twists and turns that revolve around the story of two best friends who woke up one day on a deserted island. This book tests the power of friendship, loyalty and teamwork to overcome odds.

Mathew and Ryan are two teenagers who happened to be best friends. One day they woke up on a deserted with no memory of their past. The only thing they remembered is that last they were at Ryan’s house playing video games. On the island, life was so hard, they encountered many challenges and lived in fear of losing their lives. They lacked food and clean water as they moved from one place to another on the island. All they had was an old rusty cargo boat on the water which was the only hope for them to escape the island. Their survival depended on how well they had each other’s back, team work and loyalty. For instance, getting food from the boat they needed to work together to avoid to be eaten by the shark. On my opinion, the author of this book was trying drive a point to the readers that challenges strengthen friendship ties.

What I liked about this book is that it is unique because the author was a young star and he was able to come up with terrific ideas at the age of twelve. Moreover, he made an achievement by getting his book published. I also like the creativity that the author displayed in the dialogues since the conversation is made up of immaturity and childish behavior which I found interesting to read since this book was written by a child. The plot of the book is also full of surprises hence it made me so anxious hence I was unable to put the book down.

What I disliked about this book is that I was so curious to know how the two boys will end up. On the contrary, the author left a loose ending which did not provide a solution to the conflicts to the story. Even though the author went forward and explained the reasons for such an ending which totally made a lot of sense, I am still disappointed as a reader. However, this book is well edited since is has no grammatical or spelling error. Therefore, I rate it 4 out of 4 stars.

I would recommend this book to young adults especially those who love fictional novels. This book has scenes of minor violence like animal attacks and it may not be appropriate for younger reader(less than ten years).
