Island Games, Mystery of the Four Quadrants by Caleb J. Boyer is an action-packed tale filled with excitement, mystery, friendship, and the resilience of two boys trying to find their way home. The story begins with two boys waking up on an Island, with no knowledge about how they got there. Their memories have been wiped, yet they still seem to remember each other and their friendship. This is essential to the story as they will have to rely on each other for survival.

Matthew and Ryan have been best friends since they were in grade school. The boys made a good team. One of the boys was the thinker, and the other one was the risk-taker. They had to learn to work together as they were faced with all kinds of life and death situations on the Island. Pretty soon the boys understood they were in the middle of some kind of game. What they did not understand was why or who was pulling the strings in this game. Their only goal was to survive long enough to get off the island and back home to their normal life.

I normally love to read romance novels, but this story caught my eye because of the bravery of two teenagers. I couldn’t imagine being kidnapped and dropped off in the middle of the ocean, on a small island without resources as an adult, let alone a teenager. The adrenaline rush began immediately as the characters began to fight for their survival. I really enjoyed the way the author shows the boys’ characters to reflect how different they are but how they somehow complement each other. He pulls the readers in to root for these two boys to make it alive and somehow win this game. I can tell this author is very young as he has very good insight into the feelings and mindset of these two teenage boys.

This book has been very well edited. The story is excellent for younger audiences. It does not have strong graphic scenes that may be considered disturbing and no sexual content. The cliffhanger leaves you ready to dig into the next book.

Overall, I rate Island Games, Mystery of the Four Quadrants, by Caleb J. Boyer a 4 out of 4 stars. In my opinion, the book is an excellent read. I would recommend this book if you are interested in a good mystery, packed with excitement and two silly boys who are scared to death, but who are also brave enough to face whatever comes their way.
