Manasakd The Invitation is a young adult book by Kelly May Andrews. 10-year-old Tali finds herself transported to Manasakd. Manasakd is a world of magic and mythical creatures. Only special people can enter Manasakd. Tali is extra special because she is a legend. This means that her chosen mentor will become very powerful and have a higher ranking in the Council.

Unfortunately, on Tali’s first day, she gets lost and loses her mentor. We join Tali on a crazy adventure as she navigates through Manasakd by herself. Manasakd consists of different lands. Each land contains different types of people, and these people have different magical abilities depending on what land they belong to.

What I liked about the book was that the story is told in the first person. We get to see the perspectives of many characters. This is great because it allowed me to understand the thoughts and feelings of the characters. It also was interesting to see how a young child perceives the world. I think the author did an amazing job of creating the characters. Each character is unique and likeable. My favourite character is Tali because she is bubbly and confident. I like that she was kind to every person she met on her journey. I think readers will feel inspired by Tali’s character.

Furthermore, the author’s descriptive writing is beautiful. Whilst reading, I felt like I was transported to Manasakd because I could picture the lands vividly. In addition to that, the book teaches a lot of important lessons. For example, it teaches children the importance of friendships and family.

There was nothing that I disliked about the book. The author’s story is unique and creative. The book is only 166 pages long, so it is a quick read. I like that the book is fun and friendly. I also like that the author added a mystery in the story because it makes it more interesting. I found myself wanting to read more. Just as a heads up, this book is the first in a series. So, all of your questions will not be answered.

Overall, I would rate this book 4 out of 4 stars because it was an enjoyable read. I only found three mistakes, so it is professionally edited. It’s a fun and light-hearted read that kids will enjoy. I highly recommend this book to children ages 10-13 who enjoy reading fantasy books.
