Kaleb Callahan is a twelve-year-old boy with bad anxiety. After a visit from his psychiatrist, a strange phenomenon occurs in the room that made it possible to open a portal to Manasakd. In a blink of an eye, Kaleb finds himself in this magical realm. There he meets Tali, a legend of a girl. Whoever becomes her mentor will be granted phenomenal powers and promotion on the council. It is an important privilege to which everyone in this wonderland is eager to claim. The story revolves around Tali in her quest to discover her identity and find her rightful mentor.

Manasakd by Kelly May Andrews is a fiction novel that is both for children and young adults. This book is the first part of the series. It features a magical land for people who can use the full power of their minds. These people are called Manasakds. They can be children, teenagers, and adults with plenty of superpowers. In this world, people are categorized based on the kind of power they possess. There are Empaths, Intellectuals, Visionaries, Healers, Dreamers, and Storms.

I like how vivid the storytelling is. The author’s writing style paints a clear picture of what it’s like in Manasakd and how their rules and logic work. The events unfold in a manner that will not leave you bored. I also find the switching perspectives neatly done and easy to follow. The characters are endearing, and each has a unique voice.

This book teaches about the value of family and friendship. The narrative also encourages overcoming challenges and making dreams possible. I like how this story captures such themes perfectly. I am additionally pleased to know that the author specifically wrote this book for her children. The novel ends with satisfying answers and an unexpected twist. There remain a few unresolved issues, leaving room for the anticipation of the future installments to come.

Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed this novel. Reading this is like going through a fun adventure. The story is suitable for those who prefer a fast-paced fantasy novel with some lovable and well-developed characters. I give this book a rating of 4 out of 4 stars. There is nothing I dislike about it. It is well-written. The editing is well-done with only a few minor errors. Violence and erotic scenes are absent in this book. However, there is mild swearing all over, so I do not recommend this to children younger than ten years old.

I would love to visit a world of great brainpower. I'd probably be an empath or an intellectual. Why did the author make the name of the place and people so hard to pronounce, I wonder? Excellent review.
