Manasakd is a book by Kelly May Andrews revolving around a 12 year-old boy called Kaleb and, a girl called Tali. Kaleb has a wild imagination and anxiety issues. The book is written from the first-person point of view hence submerging the reader into the characters’ world.

The book starts with a delicious show whereby, Kaleb a 12-year-old boy suffering from anxiety is being counseled by his psychiatrist, Dr. Beckett. Dr. Beckett is suddenly apprehended and, Kaleb is guided to a police station to record his statement. His anxiety gets the best of him and, his imagination travels him to the mythic land. Tali is a legend who everyone has been anticipating in the mythic land. Everybody wants to mentor her since she is a legend and, everyone claims to have seen her first, including Kaleb. But who will mentor her? Will they resolve the dispute with Dr. Beckett? Who saw her first?

Honestly, this is a mind gripping book with a unique and intricate plot that moved at a relaxing pace. The characters were well developed and fleshed out. The dialogue and banter between the characters were top-notch, making the book more interesting. The change in the point of view of the characters also made the plot easier to understand. The narration added flavor to this well-imbued book as I got caught in the saga. The twists and turns kept me hooked as I wanted to know what would happen next. The author paid great attention to detail, painting beautiful pictures in my mind.

My favorite part of the book, is the writer's attention to the gaping social problems, for example, mental health. Mental health is an issue that is looked down upon, and I would like to applaud Kelly May Andrews for using the protagonist to pass across the message of mental health since thousands of people are suffering silently. I also loved Kelly May Andrews' choice of words, simple to all age groups.

The book was absorbing and indulging. The bents and twists kept me turning the pages and, the burning desire to know what would happen on the next page is immeasurable. Manasakd was a good book with an intense and rare storyline. I would give this book 4 out of 4 stars because it was captivating and enjoyable. I would prescribe this book to absolutely anyone since it touches on the themes that both children and adults go through in life.
