Children should be raised by parents or guardians who love them wholeheartedly and can do anything for their kids. This shapes their characters, choices and how they view life or carry themselves. Martha Miller brings out how children can be affected by their parent’s decisions and choices in life. This book also teaches us, not to judge, you have to know someone on a personal level to be able to make up your mind.

Me Inside by Martha Miller is a novel based on a girl called Jeannie Baker. Her father was in jail for ten years, and she was staying with her mother. When her father got out of jail and moved back in, her mother abandoned her. She left her in her father’s care. After five years of living a life full of love and support, her father was murdered, and she had to move in with her grandmother. Her home was on the outskirts of town. She didn’t like her grandmother, and she also despised moving in with her.

As time went on, she was surprised at how things turned out living with her grandmother. Will she find happiness, love, acceptance, and closure? Will she ever move on from her father’s death?

LGBTQ readers will feel very comfortable reading this book because, there are a couple of relationships formed and also some of the characters got to discover themselves during the process. This book is well-written, with simple English. It was well-edited because, I only came across one grammatical mistake. The book is written in first person narrative. It has profane words, which are used appropriately to bring out the realness and intensity of the scene. There are also slang words, which brings out the youthfulness feeling in this book. The novel is divided into 3 parts, with 25 short and precise chapters which flawlessly entwine.

I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars because the storyline is very interesting and consistent. It’s very easy to understand and relatable to young adults. I couldn’t put the book down, read it continuously until I finished it. I recommend this book to anyone with an open mind, someone who loves good love and crime stories. I do not recommend it to anyone who is against or does not believe in the LGBTQ way of life. This book also has a sexual scene so, it’s not suitable for young children.
