Review of Island Games
What if one morning, instead of your room, you woke up on an island? How would you feel if you have no memory of your past? What if all you remember is your best friend? What if your best friend is your only companion on that strange island? Embark with Matthew and Ryan on their journey to know how they tackled this situation.
Island Games: Mystery of the Four Quadrants by Caleb J. Boyer is book one in the Island Games series. It has the potential to keep the reader hooked right from the start. Ryan and Matthew are best friends, who find themselves stranded on a strange island with no memories of their past. They don’t remember anyone but each other. They neither know how they got on the island nor how to get off it. However, they soon realize that they can only rely on each other and their instincts to survive. Their teamwork helps them overcome the most dangerous and tough challenges with ease. In fact, these situations bring them closer to each other than ever before. But the questions remain: Who put them on the island, and what did he achieve by it? Would they survive the island games?
This book is full of action, adventure, mystery and suspense and kept me on the edge of my seat, eager to see what challenges await the boys. What I loved the most in the book is that the author laid equal focus on both the main characters and remained impartial. I liked their sarcastic comments and admired their ability to find humor in the most serious situations, like when moss fell on Matthew, and Ryan peed his pants while laughing, them dunking each other in the water, etc. Although there were several instances where they disagreed, they still made it work and were always ready to save the other. Also, their show of courage and bravery made the story more intriguing and inspiring.
There was nothing worth disliking in this novel. The writing style was smooth and gave a pleasant flow to the book. I didn’t get bored at any point. Although the challenges were not unexpected, they were still unpredictable. The author, through them, has emphasized the importance of trust, friendship and teamwork.
For the eventful storyline and lack of errors, I would like to award this book four out of four stars. It seemed exceptionally well-edited. The cliffhanger has left me feeling excited to read the second book of this series. There were unique twists and turns throughout the novel to keep the reader engaged, like the mystery of keys, the ‘girlfriend’ with bad breath and the Volcano. The detailed description of things helped me envision these scenarios.
I would recommend this novel to lovers of adventure, mystery, suspense and action. It will certainly leave the reader wanting more. As there is no profanity or sexual content, this book is suitable for young adults too.

Thanks for your commentDzejn_Crvena wrote: ↑09 Aug 2021, 20:01 I've read similar stories like this before. It's like a crossover between The Maze Runner, The Hunger Games, and Lord of the Flies. The title reminds me of Ender's Game. I'm an avid reader of YA, and I wonder if I can predict this one. Thanks for your review.
