If I Could be Like Jennifer Taylor by Barbara Ehrentreu is a great story about a girl named Carolyn Samuels a high school girl entering her freshmen year at Mill Valley high school. Carolyn faces many problems in the story but which are later resolved. Carolyn learns many important things throughout the book.

The book starts out when Carolyn is sad and insecure about her weight. Carolyn believes that she is not beautiful because she is not skinny and not blonde. She dreams about her crush and about herself, being thin beautiful and especially blonde. When Carolyn awakes she does not want to go to school not because she is not a good student but that Jennifer will be there. Carolyn is both nervous and afraid that she will encounter Jennifer Taylor at school.

Jennifer Taylor is blonde perfect and skinny as if a model. Carolyn pretends to be sick so she can skip school but her mom tells her that she will have to go to school. The guy Carolyn has a crush on is actually Jennifer’s boyfriend, Brad. Because of all the things Jennifer has Carolyn both hates her and wants to become just like her.

One day Carolyn faints in gym class and she cannot breathe Jennifer helps Carolyn and afterwards threatens Carolyn that she will tell her whole class why she fell in gym class that day if Carolyn doesn't do Jennifer’s math homework. Carolyn lies to her best friends Becky and Janie she tells them that Jennifer had helped her in gym class. Later on Carolyn is paired up with Jennifer for a math project. Jennifer then transforms Carolyn and gives her a makeover. Carolyn learns some of Jennifer’s secrets.

I give this book 3 out of 4 stars because this book is both fast paced and exciting. I would recommend this book to anyone who thinks that they are not good enough or if they think that they have to become something or someone they are not. Because this book shows that even though you want to become something you are not to be popular you still could be popular or well liked in your own way. Because in the end even Carolyn finds out that even though she is like Jennifer she is not the same as she used to be. In the end Carolyn is given the fact that Jennifer likes the way she is and Jennifer wishes that she could be like Carolyn.
