Divergent Book Review

Post by KittyGlor »

SCROLL DOWN FOR SHORTER AND BLUNT VERSION
Long, Detailed, tHoughtful, and Boring version:
While her first two books displayed an intriguing plot and a flowing story that carried readers along. When I finally got my hands on Allegiant, the river didn't flow very smoothly. Veronica Roth chose to write in a dual perspective(POV of each characters). There's nothing wrong with that, it doesn't change the value of the book. But when writing in a dual tone, authors need to make sure that the reader can tell apart each perspective. The book was written from the POV'S of Tris and Four. But both Tris and Four;s tones were the same, their attitudes the same. While it may not be very hard to discern Tris from Four, Veronica Roth failed to leave hints clearly so that a reader could easily could tell the apart. Instead, the reader had to use context clues and reread.

Despite the dual perspective writing, she managed to do something exemplary in my eyes. She managed to open the truth to the world; regardless if it was unintended or purposeful. In the first two books, Divergent and Insurgent, the plot focuses down on Tris and her battle to be who she is and with the Erudite. It's always her and her world (the factions). But in Allegiant, one day.. BOOM! She discovers all small they really are. The reader sees things from Tris or Four's point of veiw. The world they have ever known opens up and suddenly expands ten times the size. The reader felt the shock that Peter and other characters felt when they realized their "insignificance." It was mind blowing, like waking up from a deep dream. In reality, people never really know how small they are in comparison until it hits them sometimes. Their world may be school, grades, friends, dinners and family. And when they are suddenly put into another one without a trace with their old world, it's... mind-blowing as I said again. The point is, she was able to put that truth of our world so smoothly in the novel, embedded into the world of Divergent. When i first read it, I didn't realize it. But imagine being like Tris, so absorbed and attached in her world when it expands so much.

Kinda Fun, Short Version:
WAIT.... *facepalm

So all of you Divergent fans never noticed this one tiny detail: Chicago somehow became this city, which was being experimented with through genetic means, that KNEW NOTHING ABOUT THE OUTSIDE. SO EVERYONE IN THE STORY DIDN'T WONDER AT ALL WHAT WAS OUTSIDE OF THE FENCE? THE LEADERS, OTHER THAN ERUDITE AND ABNEGATION WONDERED NOTHING?

So they just plopped down people into Chicago and a generation popped forth.

To be honest, I felt this story was very little thought out. There's no history to this book.

As I see, all of you fans are just so absorbed in Tris and Four's love story that none of you question the far-fetched explanations in the book.

Veronica Roth was just using SERUMS AND GENETICALLY DAMAGED PEOPLE to excuse everything!!!!!

*facepalm

And all of you are just in la-la land because of Tobias.

I give up...
