The Fault in Our Stars - John Green

"Pain demands to be felt"

Where to start. No matter the amount of compliments and positive adjectives I use, I will never be able to do this novel or John Green any justice. It is the most beautiful arrangement of words and will forever be one of my most favourite books.

The novel consists of two main characters. Hazel Grace Lancaster and Augustus Waters, a pair of 'star-crossed lovers'. Hazel Grace was diagnosed at the age of thirteen with thyroid cancer with metastasis in her lungs and Augustus Waters was diagnosed with osteosarcoma but after having his leg amputated, he finds himself to be cancer-free.
At a weekly support group meeting in the basement of a church, or most commonly referred to as 'The literal heart of Jesus', Hazel and Augustus meet. They immediately notice each other and after the support group ends, Augustus (Gus) invites Hazel to see a movie with him, to which she accepts his invitation and their relationship blossoms from there.

With most novels or movies that involve a character having cancer, you often find it to be sad, drowsy and generally depressing. What makes this book stand out from the rest is the fact that Hazel manages to realize this fact and poke fun at it, making it quite humerus and very enjoyable to read.

'The Fault in Our Stars' is a fiction book, however, it is so well written that it seems real. It all seems so, so real. I cannot emphasize the roller coaster of emotions I experienced when reading this book. Whatever emotion a character was feeling, I felt it too. I was enticed from the beginning and left wanting more when the book ended. This book was so exceptional, that I am hesitant to read another book as I am afraid that it won't be as poetically brilliant and filled with nearly as much meaning as this book, and instead, just leave me disappointed.

I was astounded at the accuracy of this book and how well John Green portrays characters. He displayed a whole spectrum of cases, from not being able to breathe, losing a leg and even losing your eyes, he has done it all. The extensive amounts of research that went into writing this book is applaudable in itself.

John Green is a personal role model of mine, and I, as well as many other aspiring writers out there, can only hope to achieve such magnificence displayed in words as he can.
I am happy to say I found no flaws in this novel and would rate it 4 out of 4 stars.

I have never recommended a book more than I recommend this one.

Thank you for reading my review, as usual, feedback is always welcome.
