The Fallen Star Series Jessica Sorensen
Gemma is the protagonist in this series and she is in high school and up to the point where the book starts her life has been very lack luster to say the least. Actually until a few weeks ago she was unable to feel emotion. She lives with her grandparents who have never shown any true love for her, and her parents are deceased. Until a few weeks ago she was unable to feel emotion. Now with these new emotions two new students start going to school with her. The male Alex, she is instantly attracted too, and his sister Aislin. Through a series of strange and confusing events Gemma starts to discover the truth about her past, and we get to take the ride with her there is no foreshadowing to the reader and we learn things as Gemma learns them. I quite enjoyed this factor of the novel.
At the ending of each book in the series you are left with such a cliff hanger that you want to just read the next book right on the spot.
There are a few aspects of the story that I feel were a bit to complex such as the plethora of different locations. It is also difficult to keep up with which characters are good and evil. There are the 5 main characters Gemma, Alex, Aislin, Laylen, and Nicholas. Other characters come and go but if I included them many spoilers would be revealed. Also there are lots of different creatures to keep track of; Witches, Keepers, Foreseers, Vampires, Faeries, Ghosts, Banshees and others I know I am forgetting, it was very confusing to keep up with each creature and remember what they do. However if you read slowly when each new creature is introduced it will be easier to understand.
All in all this series is great there is an aspect of read for everyone whether that be mystery, romance, horror, supernatural creatures. This book is a fun read and I would recommend it to anyone who has an 9th grade reading level and up just because of the thickness of the plot. I would honestly recommend this book to anyone and cannot wait to begin the spin-off series.
