The Red Plague Trilogy by Anna Abner
Maya Solomon think she may be the only survivor of the 212R virus ( the red plague), a virus that turned people into red eyed human-flesh eater zombies. But, after she ran out of food and water and had to leave her bunker, she finds other survivors. They will help her get to her dad's lab to look for a serum that may be the cure to the red plague. An adventure is on the way with an unexpected surprise, Ben, a infected boy who seems to follow Maya everywhere she goes.
Elixir is such s simple and fast read. The writing flows smoothly. It's well detailed that it never leaves the reader wondering how or why things happen. It kept me entertained from the start to the end.
The characters were well developed, but I wished I know more about their lives before the virus. The most interesting character for me was Maya's brother, Mason. He seems to have a big part in the story even thou he isn't really much mention on it. I think he is an important character in the series. I liked Maya, she is a great main character and a heroine even if she doesn't believe it. Pollard , well he is the hero we all need even if he sucks at shooting zombies. Ben, he is an intriguing character, my second favorite, I want to know more about him; he is different than the rest of the zombies.
I devoured this book on one night. I couldn't put it down. I didn't thought I would enjoy reading about zombies, but I'm so glad I read Elixir. It's like a zombie movie on paper. I'm looking forward to read the whole series. I think I'm becoming "some kind of zombie-loving freak". Really great read. 4 Stars
Antidote (book 2):
The journey of Maya Solomon continues with Antidote and the discovery of the fortress (Camp Carson, Virginia) where survivors of the 212R live, where Ben, the "cured" zombie who infected himself with the serum Maya believes is the cure her father invented may get the attention needed to recreate the cure and save the zombies.
I like how Antidote starts right where Elixir, the book one of the Red Plague trilogy ended. The introduction of new characters (survivors) makes the story a bit more interesting than the first book. But, I wanted Maya to be more wise and figured out what was happening around her sooner rather than try to pretend that nothing was happening. It was like she was looking at the world with a cloudy vision. I liked it but I think book one, Elixir, had more action than Antidote. One thing I liked is the relationship that is building up between Maya and Ben. It reminds me a little bit of Warm bodies.
Overall is a really good and fast-paced story. I read it in one sitting.Panacea here I come. 4 Stars
Panacea (book 3):
Final book of the Red Plague Trilogy, Panacea starts after the end of book two. The journey continues on a world of zombies were one person, Ben, may change everything. But, what could be stored for him? He is a cured zombie with the antiserum on his veins. What are people willing to do to get the cure?
Panacea is full of sweet romance, action, angst, and hope. I love Ben's story before and after the virus took him. He became my favorite character. Thou, I wold have like to know more about his relationship with Maya's brother. He played an important part on the story. Without him, Ben would have never found his hope, Maya. He would have recover his humanity.
" You save my life. I mean, you treated me like a man even when I was infected. Do you know how many other people would've done that? None. You're so special."
I really liked the ending. This book kept me interesting to the point that I couldn't stop reading until the end. My favorite book of the trilogy. It is simply written but without being simple. 4 Starts
