I am still swimming through the tides of the graphic novel sea, taking my time to find out which ones are the best for me and which that are not my cup of tea. But The Adventures of the Loch Ness Monster by Cheryl Charanian surpassed my expectations.

It is a unique, one-of-a-kind graphic novel about a ten-year-old kid named Adam. Lately, he can't seem to concentrate on his schoolwork, and his classmates constantly make fun of him, calling him stupid and a dork. His teacher gets concerned and arranges a meeting with his parents. She lets them know he frequently daydreams during class rather than paying attention to lessons, and his grades are starting to slip. Adam's parents then confess they are thinking about getting a divorce. To help things, Adam agrees to visit his grandma with his family in Scotland even though he does not want to at first. After that, they go fishing in the Loch even though there are rumors that claim there is a monster on the shoreline. While they are talking on their boat, Adam spots a mysterious green thing in the water and swims towards it with excitement, ignoring his parent's pleas for him to come back on the boat. Thankfully, the Loch Ness Monster (or Nessie) saves him from drowning, although nobody believes him. Nessie and Adam soon bond as they travel to new exotic places.

The author manages to weave crucial life lessons in the story, like how love is the most important thing in life and your imagination is just as special as anything else. In addition, I loved all the beautiful illustrations in the book. They kept me entertained the whole time I was reading. The Adventures of the Loch Ness Monster is exceptionally edited since I did not find a single grammar error.

As for the negative aspects of the book, I admit I was a little surprised to see how inconsiderate Adam's parents were to him, especially after their separation.

I unreservedly give the rating 4 out of 4 stars. I recommend The Adventures of the Loch Ness Monster to people of all ages who like to read adventurous graphic novels about friendship and mythical sea creatures. I also think this book would be a good fit for anyone who has gone through a parental divorce because the protagonist has faced the same situation, and it would help them relate to him.

Sounds like a good book but adventure novels aren’t really for me.

This seems like such a wonderful book for children. Mythical creatures always seem to capture their attention.

The review statement that Nessie and Adam travelled to exotic places arouses a lot of curiosity in me. Is Nessie a physical being. Is their trip to exotic places a paranormal or real life trip. Is there a connection between Adam's daydreaming at the onset of the review and the later mentioned encounter with Nessie. I cannot wait to grab my copy of this book. Thanks for the review

This review has given a good brief of the book mentioning the positives and the negatives. However, I feel the book is not my cup of tea. I shall give it a pass.

I agree that children find this kind of stuff fascinating.
