Review of Island Games
Ryan and Matthew are best friends. Ryan is the most adventurous and is the more outgoing. He can be pretty impulsive and always ready to joke and laugh. Matthew is the more reserved one, always thinking things through first then acting accordingly. One day, they wake up washed up on a beach with only their clothes. They discover they remember their parents but little else. That night after they become fully conscious and investigate their new environment, they light a fire with fallen branches retrieved from the jungle edge not far from the beach. Rubbing sticks together to create a spark they vaguely remember doing on a camping trip with their fathers. They see an old cargo ship full of containers a little way offshore. Ryan and Matthew decided to swim out to it the following day to see any food, water, and supplies. It is the same morning on the old boat they realize they are on an island and, as shocked as they feel about their new situation, recognize that this is some form of a game. Island Games: Mystery Of The For Quadrants by Caleb J. Boyer is a high-energy story you can't put down.
I liked this story. You are immersed in Ryan and Matthews's world right from the first page. We travel with the boys through their challenges receiving food packets and bottles of water after solving different tasks. The boys soon realize that working together is quicker to overcome the obstacles. So you see how working as a team is always better than struggling on your own. The narrative is obvious, and you can visualize what is happening in the story. The story flowed so well. The editing of this book is very professional. It also helped the flow. I could not put the book down once I started. Also, when you picked the book back up after a break, it wasn't difficult to get back to where you left off.
I can't say anything negative about this book. I thought the ending came to a natural finish and left open for a second book. We also see the boy's relationship progress and witness their bonds grow more robust. You also see how they bring the best out in each other to overcome the challenges they ask of them. Also, you see how they become more confident and brave the farther on in the games they progress.
I have given this book 4 out of 4 stars. The book is so well written and pleasant to read. This story teaches that you can overcome many problems if you apply yourself correctly.
This book is suitable for young adults as there is no foul language or romance. Anyone who loves a great adventure will love this as well.
