Review of Island Games
Have you imagined or watched movies where someone wakes up in an unknown land? Island Games by Caleb J. Boyer is an intriguing book that tells the story of two friends who wake up in an unknown land and seek a means to survive.
Mattew and Ryan, the protagonists in this book, have been more than friends since childhood; they could be seen more as brothers. Matthew had a dreadful dream. Matthew woke up and noticed Rayn sitting and staring blankly at the distant ocean horizon. Rayn appeared to be in a trace. All efforts by Matthew to bring Rayn to a state of consciousness seem not to have yielded success. He was left with no choice but to slap Ryan, which brought him back to consciousness. The last thing they could remember was when they were playing video games at Matthew's house. They had thought that they were still in a dream, until Mattew gave Ryan a pinch to prove that it was a reality. They are left with a lot of questions going through their heads that they need answers to. They had come across a rusty old cargo boat in the ocean and had planned to go there in the morning. They were exhausted and thought they could see supplies in the boat. In the morning, they started moving to the boat, which almost cost them their life. They searched the boat, where they saw supplies and food. While they were on this unknown island, Matthew wondered why they brought them there. Matthew, in his determination to pass through this phase, just started the game of survival. Wow, what could be ahead? Grab a copy.
It's been days on this island without knowing their whereabouts. The game of survival is still on. It's been pretty difficult for Mattew and Ryan, but they have chosen to survive. Strange and mysterious things keep happening. They have had a series of scary nightmares. The boys have named the bird that wakes them up "Reggie." Each day comes with its own challenges. Following the beast that hunted them on the island, the shark that attacked them in the ocean. They were determined to win this game. They had to search for food and water if they needed to survive. The mystery of the island was something they could not figure out.
I disliked nothing about this book. I couldn't get enough of this thrilling book. This book would be well adapted for a movie. The characters of Mattew and Ryan are indeed fascinating and interesting to read about. The island has strengthened their friendship as they could not have achieved anything without each other. Matthew's character seems to have impressed me so well in this book, as he was more brave, courageous, and always seemed to think fast. Ryan also interests me, but he seems to be more of a joke and was a funny character. I admire the friendship of the boys and how they stick to one another. The book is well developed, and I loved the style of writing used by the author in this book.
I would like to rate this book 4 out of 4 stars. While reading, I detected no errors. This shows that this book was exceptionally well-edited. This would be a nice read for those who love fantasy stories.
