It's like a hunger games meets 1984 plus apocalypse with the personal impact of individuals after a bombing. This is an amazingly detailed book when it comes to the life after being "detonated," essentially bombed. Be prepared to get personal with the characters. There is a way of describing feelings and then bringing you back to the current reality that is an impeccably perfected in her writing. The details of the new world around the characters reminds you of your own backyard with a twist of radiation. It makes you wonder what your world would look like in "the Before."

Pushing all the way through the to very last page of the very third book, you will love these if you're into politic radicals, science fiction and a wee bit on conspiracy theory...it even has the equivalent of zombies, only deadlier (I know who would have thought!).

I love that series! I've only read the first two, but I am so excited to start the third.
Honestly, I'm not a huge fan of the dystopian fiction - unless it's done exquisitely and Baggott has done an amazing job. I am only upset that I don't have that much creative genius in me.
Her descriptions and imagery, especially, are just wonderful. It is so easy to get sucked into the book and have it play like a movie in your head. Some of her descriptions are a little stomach-churning, though. The one that got me was the description of (really, every single scene with) the 'mothers.' I have two toddlers and it was only too easy for me to imagine myself in their place.
Anyway, the book is great. Genius. It has twists upon twists and, I think, was thoroughly researched, which is always important.

After reading series like The Hunger Games, Divergent, and Legend, it is surprisingly difficult to grab a change of pace especially when you want more political rebellion and dystopia society. This series does seem to fit that, so I will definitely be adding this to my list.

Pure Trilogy by Julianna Baggott

Hello, new member here, so if this series has been discussed before, please let me know. I bought Pure, the first book of the trilogy, on a whim while perusing the book section at Target. I'm really glad that I found it because I instantly fell in love with the series. It is typical YA dystopian fiction, yes, but it is also completely different from anything else that I have read. The novel takes place in future America after an apocalypse happens, causing some people to be melded together with foreign objects. With the protagonist Pressia, her arm is fused with the doll she was carrying, causing her hand and forearm to be replaced with the doll's head. Families are divided and people learn just how much they can take in this brave new world. With the destruction comes a distinct separation of the classes that is based on whether the person is deformed or fused to inanimate objects; basically, they are being judged by how "pure" they are after the apocalypse. I don't want to give too much away, but this is a series that will stick with you. There's class distinction, dystopian themes, drama, struggles, and, of course, love. Check it out and share your thoughts with me, if you'd like.
