The Adventures of Slibby the Snail –The stolen food is a delightful little storybook for children by author Ivan Kules. It is a work of fiction and is the story of a snail named Slibby who lives in a small town called Porchlandia. He lives among many other little creatures and insects such as ants, beetles and centipedes. Everybody lives happily and in peace with each other in Porchlandia. However one day things change. The ants wake up to find that all their food has disappeared. When Slibby sees that all the ants are frantic, he approaches them and asks his friend Rose the ant, what the matter is. When he finds out what happened, he decides to help them find the food, as he knows how important the food is to them, especially since winter is coming up. So Slibby the Snail goes on an adventure in search of the missing food. On this journey he discovers new places and makes new friends.
I admired and enjoyed this story because of the simple lessons that it tries to inculcate in the book. It teaches young children good morals and behavior such as courage, bravery, sharing and how to make friends and forgive mistakes. It also shows that if you help others, you will in turn receive help if you should need it one day.
Although I was first under the impression that this was a book of the young adult genre, since that was what it was classified under, I see that this is certainly a children’s book, and as the book advises, it is perfect for kids from the ages of four to eight. It was probably classified under the young adult’s category because there is no children’s category in this forum.
This book is published by a developmental team from Croatia known as ‘Cool Ash Studio’. They create digital book apps which allow children to actively take part in the telling of the story.
I think that this is a charming book for children, and is wonderful for inculcating life lessons. One of the things I really liked about the book is its enchanting, colorful little pictures placed throughout the book. Some of these pictures are even interactive, so that the child actively takes part in the story. I think that the story will be brilliant and interesting for kids and for this reason I am giving it a four out of four stars. I would encourage any parent or guardian to get this book for their child. The story of Slibby the Snail-The Stolen Food is a delightful read for your child to enjoy as a bedtime story.
