Review: The One by Kiera Cass

The Selection changed America Singer's life in ways she never could have imagined. Since she entered the competition to become the next princess of Illéa, America has struggled with her feelings for her first love, Aspen--and her growing attraction to Prince Maxon. Now she's made her choice . . . and she's prepared to fight for the future she wants.

The One is the final book in the Selection series by Kiera Cass. Overall, I found this series to be very enjoyable and I loved it a lot. I love the way Cass writes and the amazing dystopian world that she managed to built. I also love the romance aspect she threw into the series and the wide range of character development that she had with each character. Like I said, the series is pretty great. However, their are a few problems I had with this book and the series as a whole together.

Number one, America Singer has got to be the most annoying protagonist that I have ever read in my life. I don't want to give too much away (so mild spoilers ahead) but at one point she procrastinates on doing something until the end of the book and it ends of completely blowing up in her face. And don't even get me started on the Aspen-Maxon debate she's had going on in her head since book one. Sigh.

Number two, this is an issue I had with the series as a whole, but why was it necessary that we had to stretch the Selection into three books. I loved the Selection and the whole competition aspect of it, but America Singer's romantic shenanigans are not enough to keep me interested for three whole books. I really wish that there had been more world building and we had gotten to see more of the dystopian aspect of the series. (However, to be fair their is supposedly a new book coming out that may expand more on this.)

However, despite the issues I had with this series it was still very good and I enjoyed it a lot. I would definitely recommend it.

Overall Rating: 4.5 of 5 stars
