Note: I posted this same review on Goodreads.

** spoiler alert ** I read this book in one day. It was okay. 3 stars from me. Not exactly as good as I would have expected from Melody Carlson.

Mixed Bags is about 6 teenage girls and their first few days in a rich girls' home belonging to the protagonist's -- DJ's grandmother. The characters are somewhat flaky -- charming and sweet one minute, snappy and snobby the next. It's as though they all have split-personality disorders. They're somewhat inconsistent, conforming to however the author thinks they should act (but seemed pretty flat and empty to me.)

The one non-flake-non-drama-queen is Rhiannon, who is like a model Christian. Nothing against this, I'm a Christian too. But I feel like some of the things she said were forced and cliché. Honestly. Not everyone who hears about Jesus will respond with tears and an amazing conversion (although not too uncommon). It just seemed a little bit rushed to go from not fitting in, to single, to first date, to making out, to dancing with another guy, to just about breaking up, and to becoming a Christian in a few days.

I dunno. Seemed like a definitive blah read to me.
