Island Games is a young adult adventure novel written by Caleb J. Boyer. It follows two teenagers, Matthew and Ryan, and their adventures. Matthew and Ryan wake up on a mysterious island with very little recollection of their past lives. They remember they have families and they are best friends, but nothing else. The island is deserted and they have no means to get away. They see a big volcano far away and that is their only landmark.

Soon, the island games start, forcing the boys to fight for their survival. Taking part and winning was the only way for them to get food and escape certain death. They feel as though they are always being watched. Ryan and Matthew have to work together using all their skills for their survival and escape. Will the boys be able to escape or will they lose their lives in the process?

Island Games is one of the most exhilarating adventure stories I have read in recent times. It has it all. The suspense, the action, and the mystery. The beautiful friendship between Matthew and Ryan only helped to enhance the depth of the story. From the first line itself, the author throws us into a world of mystery. With every task the boys have to finish, the mystery deepens and the sense of adventure heightens. The author also portrays the feelings and thoughts of the stranded boys realistically. They cannot remember any details about their homes, but they long to get back to them. They keep their calm in dire circumstances with the help of humour and the strength of their friendship.

The thing I liked the most about the book is its portrayal of friendship. Every step of their way, it is their friendship and their love and trust for each other that save Ryan and Matthew. I also liked how the author added humour to the story, which otherwise could have been very serious. The banter between Ryan and Matthew is hilarious. It reminds the readers to have a brighter outlook on life, even when facing difficulties. I also liked the various descriptions and the imagery in the novel.

There is nothing disliked about this book. It seems to be professionally edited. There is no graphic violence or erotic scenes. There is no profanity.

I give this book 4 out of 4 stars because it is very exciting to read and is well edited. I recommend it to young adults and adults. I also recommend it to readers who like adventure and coming-of-age novels.
