What do you do, as a teenage girl, when you think you may be an alien?

You experiment.

Treasa's convinced she must be an alien. She doesn't feel like she belongs. She doesn't understand the kids at school. She feels betrayed by biology.

Then she meets Gabriel, and he's perfect.
He plays piano like Beethoven, looks just like her celebrity crush, and knows karate...what's not to love?

With quirky elements like Treasas various experiments to prove her alien-ness, and her t.v. series inspired fan-fiction, this is an entertaining read.
There are South African slang words thoughout the book, but with a glossery included it actually inhanced the story for me.
I do wish this book had been longer, I wish some parts hadn't felt quite so rushed.
I wish the story had dealt with some of the inevitable fall-out. But that was not the story being told. Somehow...that makes it sweeter...for me at least.

I devoured 'The Other Me' in a few hours. So many things about this book grabbed me and wouldn't let go. From being set in South Africa, to Treasa believing she's an alien, I loved the sweet story that unfolds in this beautifully creative look at what it's like to be a transgendered teen.

But Treasa isn't the only one with a story.
The wonderful surprise, for me at least, was that Gabriel got a story that stood by itself. Both were woven into a story of love and friendship that has settled into my heart.

I hope it finds a place in yours.
