If you are a reader who enjoys divulging into a tale much like The Hunger Games, then Caleb J. Boyer's book, Island Games: Mystery of the Four Quadrants is definitely for you. This is a shorter tale based on two friends who wake up one morning and find themselves all alone on a deserted island. Through conquering the beasts of the jungle, almost freezing in arctic conditions, wandering on the lonely prairie, to fighting volcanic ash, two best friends try their best to strive, survive, and solve the questions of this mysterious island. Follow Matthew and Ryan as they try to figure out why they are roaming through lonely terrains instead of going to school and playing video games like normal teenagers their age.

This book is very easy to follow and understand. It can be read in a weekend or in a couple of afternoons. This book has a sense of mystery that allows the reader to crave a sense of sleuthing. This book not only reminds me of The Hunger Games, but I can definitely feel a sense of The Swiss Family Robinson as well. This book was able to take me back to my childhood. I had such a sense of nostalgia while indulging in this work of art. I appreciate Boyer's sense of writing and applaud him for a job well done.

The only semi-negative aspect I could find while reading this book is that it is a little on the blander side; however, it is important to note that this book is written for a young adult audience. Keeping that in mind, it is extremely hard in my opinion, to find any negative aspects.

I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars. I did not find any grammatical errors and the flow of the story was very well-written. The author, Caleb J. Boyer, was just a preteen himself when he wrote this book. I believe that this is a magnificent feat for such a young author, hence, the full four star rating.

This is a perfect summer read for pre-teens and younger teenagers. I would recommend this book to any young adult who enjoys a good fiction work full of action and adventure. I believe the target age suited for this read is around the ages of eleven to fourteen. Also, I believe anyone who appreciates the works of young artists should read this novel and join me in appreciating such an excellent job well-done by Boyer!
