Back then, I have no intention of reading this book because really, contemporary isn't my genre. But because of the outrage and buzz going on around this book lately, I forced myself to give it a try. And holy cow I'm so thankful I did!

This book, believe me, will make your jaw drop. It has the most explosive end-of-the-novel chapter I have ever read. For real. After reading it, I was so empty I felt like a crater left by a heavy bombing. Lockhart has done a brilliant job of intertwining events in a nonsequential manner but still able to tie it's loose ends in the most epic way possible. She even topped Cassandra Clare this time when it comes to delivering unearthly twists! (That's saying something because Clare is like, the queen of all twists.)

Reading the initial chapters of this book was a real hard work. This is not the kind of book with informations scattered between sentences, paragraphs. In this, all the significant informations were laid right in the opening chapter. It even started out like this: "Welcome to the beautiful Sinclair family." We were poured with the informations about the Sinclair family first, it's members, it's flaws, it's status, it's kind. So even at the very beginning, we have an idea on what we are plunging on.

The characters here aren't one dimensional. I see them all in 3D. They all have sides and phases that were so fun to read. I was never short on entertainment. The protagonist Cadence, is the perfect combination of mystery and innocence. I love reading about her. The writing style used in this book is different too. It suits the mysterious atmosphere of the book perfectly.

Over all, I give We Were Liars 5 out of 5 stars. Way to go for contemporary novels for me!
