I only read the first book of this series so I cannot comment on how the story would have turned out. I will say that in reading the back of the book you can predict what the big secret is all about. Best friend died, main character visits cemetery frequently and lives in Sleepy Hollow. In case you are unsure, the story is about ghosts. But we only know that and see the ghostly characters in the last probably 3 pages. The rest of the book is about walking, making perfume, baking, school, and other boring daily tasks. You keep waiting for the suspense and mystery to start but it never does. She falls in love instantly with a stranger basically who ends up being a, surprise, ghost. But there is no mention of a struggle between him and other ghosts even though he seems to think he is protecting her from something. Her friend never makes a reappearance in the first book but maybe later. The character is a little self absorbed and becomes a lovesick puppy instead of grieving the loss of her friend or discovering something about herself. Just a predictable and boring ending for a character with a lot more potential.

I agree that this book is incredibly boring. My book club picked this book to read as a last minute pick where we were trying to find something for Halloween but didn't was something too scary. Well, this wasn't even suspenseful. I was so disappointed. I love your description that this book is about walking, making cookies, etc. Haha, spot on. And it drags on and on and on for 500 pages! You see the "twist" at the end of the book coming from pretty much page one. Also, in some aspects the main character seemed to be really mature and have her stuff together with a business plan for a business she wants to pursue in the future. But then other times I would find myself thinking she had the emotionally maturity of a 12 year old. It was really odd. I definitely won't be reading any more of this series.
