The following is a review of The Crystilleries of Echoland by Dew Pellucid. Imagine two worlds living side by side. In one world, live the Sounds, people like you and me. In the other world, Echoland, live the Echos. For every Sound, there is an Echo. If one ceases to exist, the other has a similar fate.

The story begins with young Will Cleary, the Sound. He and his twin, Emmy, were kidnapped at the early age of two. Will mysteriously returned, however, his sister remained missing. Will and his parents never gave up their search for Emmy. Over ten years later, just before his thirteenth birthday, Will discovers a way to hopefully save his sister and bring her home. Once in Echoland, he meets his Echo counterpart, who is the prince of the new world. It is up to Will and his new friends to help the prince take back the throne from his evil uncle and to rescue his long-lost twin. Will’s journey is filled with magic and danger, not knowing who is trustworthy or who is only looking out for themselves.

What I enjoyed about this book was the new land of Echoland. Pellucid has created and described a magical place so well that I would like to go there and see it for myself. The illustrations in the book really brought the story to life. I did find it amusing that the author added themselves as a character. It has me intrigued wondering if it was the headmistress herself penning the tale. Also, just when I thought I had the story figured out, twists kept me guessing.

It would be a struggle to find anything negative about this book. If I had to come up with anything it would be that it’s over and it’s a stand-alone story. My hope is that Dew Pellucid continues the story with one of her other interesting characters.

I give this story 5 out of 5 stars. The rating is earned by the creativity of the writer, making me not want to put the story down. I did, however, find a couple of minor grammatical errors. But they didn’t take away from this magical story.

I highly recommend this story for young teens and preteens to read if they like fantasies. Adults would also enjoy the book if they enjoyed books similar to the Harry Potter or Narnia series.
