Review of Island Games
The novel, Island Games, by Caleb J. Boyer, was an interesting tale about Matthew and Ryan. The story opens with the two best friends laying unconscious on a beach. The very last thing these two buddies remembered, was that they were playing Playstation at Matthew's house. So how did they end up face down in the sand? As they get their bearings, they realize the need to collect wood for a fire and try to find a shelter. The only thing stopping them is the jungle that connects to the beach. What creatures are in there? When they awake they swim out to a cargo boat they see in the water. As they climb aboard they begin their challenges. Everytime they complete a challenge, they are rewarded with supplies. Can their friendship survive the predictaments they find themselves in? Throughout this amazing tale, the boys get sucked into a stream, face water beasts, fight off huge beasts that look like a mixture of bull and lion, become engulfed in quicksand, cross over a suspended bridge that is directly above lava, and that's not all. Are they able to escape? And who wants them here? Is this a bad dream or a live video game?
This spectacular book, Island Games, was a page-turner. I was constantly cheering for the boys and hoping that with each new challenge, that they were finally at the end. I found this novel to be very enjoyable to read. There was no profanity and no errors. I was pulled into the story almost immediately. The boys were very likable and funny, like you would expect teenage boys to be. Their dialogue was age appropriate.
There was not one thing that I found distasteful in this book. Island Games is a wonderful and exciting tale. The main characters were engaging in banter with each other, which I found to be believable and quite entertaining.
I rate this book by Caleb J. Boyer, a five out of five stars. There were no errors, which shows it was professionally edited. The storyline was very engaging. This reader found herself on the edge of her seat while following along on their adventures. Along with the amazing creatures and hurdles they faced, they managed to strategize and figure out how to handle each obstacle that was presented.
I highly recommend this book to readers of all ages. It was an easy-to-understand novel. The characters, Matthew and Ryan, were very relatable. As each challenge was presented and they overcame them as a team, it strengthened my belief that we all need each other. A very good lesson. The fact that there was no profanity or sexual content, makes this book recommended for all.
