The Crystilleries of Echoland by Dew Pellucid is a fictional story that follows a 12-year-old boy named William Cleary, Will for short. The young boy, having been kidnapped as an infant with his fraternal twin sister and returned alone, unravels the secrets behind his abduction. It all begins in a fantastical world of gems, translucent beings, and seemingly sealed fates. With his attempted kidnapping failed, Will must uncover the truth behind a realm-shattering mystery to save his life and the lives of those with “sealed fates.”

One aspect of the book I heavily enjoyed is the imagery. The book is very descriptive which helps bring the beautiful realm of glass-like people, fay, flora, and fauna to life. And with the magic or magic-like interactions Will experiences, the extra details make visualizing the story a soother process.

Another factor that made listening (because it’s an audiobook) to the story delightful is the characters. Will is a very calm and responsive character; he does not have the stereotypical exaggerated and reactive personality I often see in books. He is soft-spoken and gentle. He is realistically kind. I can feel his kindness, and meek yet bold personality from beginning to end. The friends he makes throughout the story have consistent personalities. With consideration to their character, I can always understand their reasoning or emotions during any given event.

The last major aspect (that I will mention) in making this book a wonder is the voice of the narrator. It is magnificent! For a male with a relatively deep voice, I was a bit curious on how the female voices would come out in the story. My concerns were quelled instantly. The narrator was so good I shivered the 1st time I heard them voicing fate-sealers (as the name suggests, they are cruel and twisted beings that “sealed fates”.) It was unworldly perfect for the eerie and sinister creatures.

The only negative points I found with the book are being overly descriptive, the timeline, and the transitions. Because the story is fantasy fiction, descriptiveness is an essential part of understanding. However, at some point in the story, the story felt overly descriptive, and I lost the image it tried to illustrate. This happened minimally so it is a minor issue. The 2nd issue is the timeline. Regarding the timeline of the story, from the way Will’s adventure progressed, I thought the timeline of the course of events was double what it actually was. It all felt much longer, so much happened in such little time. The last issue I had was the occasional lack of transitions, usually at the beginning of a chapter. It felt to me like a sentence was missing in the beginning because I was confused about how the characters got from point a (the end of the previous chapter) to point b (the beginning of the new one). Having a sentence like “Later that evening Will…” or “After returning from the library…” in the beginning of a few of the chapters would have helped. It is a minor issue because I eventually figure things out from context clues. Pretty much all the negatives are minor compared to the entirety of the book.

I rate The Crystilleries of Echoland by Dew Pellucid book 4 out of 5 stars. The book was magically amazing and descriptively exciting. The mystery was fun and progressively became deeper and more complex. The only reason this is not 5 out 5 stars is because I'm technical. If it is not one of the best books I have ever read then it is not a 5. Other than that, it was excellent, the story and the writing.

I would recommend this book to fans of fantasy fiction. Those who enjoy reading stories about kids who still pursue their curiosity and enjoy the wonder of a new world. Additionally, anyone who loves a strong writer in imagery and beautiful world-building.
