Fighting against a fearsome dragon is an exciting story to read. We can learn how a person becomes a better warrior and gains more experience after overcoming different obstacles. In Grim Knights (The Grim Chronicles Book 1) by D.R. Martin, we can enjoy this classic tale between a warrior and a dragon again.

One day, a young man appeared in front of a castle, where the king of Bowden lived. He claimed himself as the son of a powerful and famous wizard, who led soldiers and won many brutal battles. The young man told the king that a dragon would attack Bowden. The king sent knights with the young man to kill the dragon. At the same time, a fleet of an empire was attacked by mysterious tornadoes, many ships sank, and sailors died. The emperor investigated the incident and found that the wizard was behind this assault. He sent his troop to join the king of Bowden’s army, and the alliance marched into a mountain, where the wizard lived. The mountain was covered by fog; the soldiers could not see anything, and their enemy ambushed them.

This book provides many illustrations for readers. One of the illustrations is a blacksmith in the book. From this illustration, we can know what this man looked like; his face, size and clothes. There is a scene about how the dragon killed some soldiers. The description is pretty good; I can feel how terrible it was to the soldiers, who suffered and died from dragon fire. The author bestows human behaviors on animals. Some mice in this book behaved like spies, had unique codes for internal communication, and moved around a castle to steal intelligence; this is quite interesting. In the book, a character betrayed his friend and doubted his decision. I hope the author can describe more about the character’s mind about his betrayal, since this character is significant for this book.

I would rate this book 5 out of 5 stars. This book tells me a fantastic story of how people fought against a dragon, and became reliable comrades. The people celebrated their success in the tavern, drank ale, sang songs and played games; they enjoyed their life. The book is rich in content. Some big and small castles with different structures and histories. Different animals, bears, rabbits, wolves, etc., lived in the mountain.

I recommend this book to readers interested in stories about animals, fighting or magic. In this book, they will find out how magic was used and how animals cooperate like humans.
