Book Thief review

"The Book Thief" by Markus Zusak is a book worth reading-but not the greatest.
Set in WW2, Liesel is going to a foster home when her younger brother suddenly died. She meets her new mama and papa. Mama's harsh words are out of love. Papa adores Liesel and teaches her to read, along with playing the accordion for her. Liesel begins a career of book-thievery. As a part of Hitler youth she begins to become loyal to the füher. Then her mama and papa hide a Jewish man in their basement. The thief starts to realize that nothing is what it seems, and that death is everywhere.
In my opinion this book really lacked. The hype surrounding was shocking based on the quality. As far as characters go, Hans Hubermann (Liesel's "papa") was by far the greatest. He really cared about Liesel. Mama's insults seemed overwhelming and abusive. Rudy was just the boy with hair the color of lemons. As far as the rest, the sad parts weren't sad, because they had been spoiled by Death. And Leisel only stole around 4 books! I get the point of the title and all, but she was really just a book lover who stole 4 books. This book somehow did get me hooked though. Something about it really captivated me, maybe Liesel, Papa, and Death. I definitely don't regret picking up the book theif!
