To give a quick summary of the plot, the story goes that there is a village that lead simple lives, but are isolated in a forest. There is a great wall surrounding the forest that no one is allowed to go beyond as anyone whoever has gone near it has never returned. One day though Vera Jane hears a commotion and follows it to the wall to see that someone has entered the wall to try and reach the other side.
This book reminds me a bit of the movie The Village in which there is a town that is cut off from the rest of the world by the fact that there are monsters in the surrounding woods. The story does start out a little slow, but once you get into the meat of it you get sucked into the world. There are so many twists and turns that I couldn't see coming and there are even some characters who are not what they seem to be on the outside. The protagonist, Vera Jane, ends up getting sucked into everything simply because she knows the boy who escaped, forcing her to try and find answers, to which she only finds lies about everything she thought she knew. It was refreshing read as I have never seen any books that entailed so many different sub genres colliding with one another and each of them intertwining into the story in a way that made sense. I would easily give this book a 4/4.
