Icon Review:My beautiful failure by Janet Ruth Young(spoilers)

Post by brenda_aldama »

this book in my opinion was very well written, and had a nice story behind it. in this book, there is the main character, billy. billy is said to be a sophomore in high school who had a father with what seemed to be severe depression. his father's depression is often referred to as "last winter" in the book, although it does refer to the father's collapse. The book does not state the reason for the fathers collapse, though it does describe it in randoms chunks of the book. so back to the book itself, it is about a boy billy who is trying to help his father and also trying to help a girl, jenney. billy had joined a suicide hotline called "listeners". billy would go in twice a week, and along the time he worked there, he met jenney. jenney is on the brink and billy attempts to help her cope with her problems in the story. as the book goes on, billy gets to know jenney a little better, and starts developing feelings for her. as her life seems to get harder, so does billy's as he worries that his father will once again collapse. billy and jenney go through alot, and in the end, jenney commits suicide.billy never gets to meet jenney, but he did somehow manage to get her address and find her dead in her home. throughout the book, billy had his friend gordy to help him through it all. The book also mentions his mother, his sister linda, and her best friend jodie, as they would help billy's father with his painting obsession. The book was a bit confusing, but in the end i thought it was an alright book, so I give it 4 stars out of 5! By the way, sorry for the bad review, as i realize its all over the place.
