Review: Sammy Keyes series by Wendelin Van Draanen

Post by Jamester »

I was in the 5th grade studying the books in the traveling book store when i came across Sammy Keyes and the Hollywood mummy. I was Intrigued that a 13 yr old girl solving mystery's. Sammy and her friend went to hollywood to find her mother lady lana who left sammy with her grandmother to get discovered. Unfortunately when sammy found her mother she dyed her hair, changed her name and lied avout her age. Sammy decided to give her mother a reality check for ditching her and creating a world where she can't exist. During sammys adventure she discovers how manipulative and deceiving Hollywood really is. Everyone pretending to be something their not just to make it in show biz. Sammy finds out a women was killed in a room next to hers she gets a motive to do some investigation. As sammy does her detective work she figures out who had the motive and who didn't. Sammy doesn't leave the case unfinished no matter how much the cops tell her to stay out of it. As the series progress she solves more mystery's before the cops do. She goes on adventures and descovers the truth. I would recommend this series to any young adult who likes mysteries and suspense. Its a good read. You won't stop reading till you finish it.

When I first found the Sammy Keyes series in the 4th grade I actually really disliked it. I was proud of myself for being practicle and a junior high girl running around doing Actual Police Work and everyone being okay with that bothered something very deep inside me.
But it was one of the few series at my reading level and the writing was otherwise good enough I kept at it.
And i sort or grew to love them.
The Hollywood Mummy is one of the better of the series in my opinion, as we get more of Sammy's backstory and a fun trip to LA.
