"Suicide Notes From Beautiful Girls" by Lynn Weingarten

Post by PrettyLittleAuthors »

I went into my local waterstones store with a list of books I wanted to buy (I make lists because otherwise I would find myself spending hours looking through bookshelves and going up to the counter with a stack of books as tall as me and end up spending far too much money.) I get a lot of book suggestions from YouTube reviews (mod note: name removed) but on this one occasion I couldn't find the book I wanted and, being the socially awkward weirdo that I am, I refused to go up to a member of staff and ask for any advice or help on where to find a particular bool. Instead I headed over to the YA Fiction section and picked up this book called "Suicide Notes From Beautiful Girls" by Lynn Weingarten. Immediately the cover drew me in, simple with just a splash of colour but it instantly looked interesting and like the sorts of books I enjoy reading (mystery, crime etc.) After reading the first couple sentences of the blurb, I knew I had to buy it and added it to the pile of books I planned on buying. When I got home, I decided to settle down and read. I don't want to give anything away about the most important parts of the novel but what I can say is this: wow!

Book Blurb :
"Delia burned to death in her stepfathers shed. They said it was suicide.
June and Delia used to be closer than anything. Best friends in that way that comes before everyone else - before guys, before family. It was like being in love, but more. They had a billion secrets, tying them together like thin silk cords. But one night everything changed. And now, a year later, Delia is dead.
June is certain she was murdered and she owes it to her friend to find out what happened. But the truth is far more complicated than she could have ever imagined..."

This book was gripping and mysterious and beautiful from beginning to end. There was mystery and drama on every page turn and it even made me cry at some points due to the wonderfully written friendship and love story between the two main protagonists (naturally I ship them so much *squee* :shhh: I highly recommend this book if you enjoyed books such as "The Perks of Being a Wallflower" or "It's Kind of a Funny Story", it leaves you constantly guessing what really happened and being completely shocked when it turns out to be the exact opposite of what you guessed. Definitely a book to add to your "to read" list, I loved it from cover to cover and read it in less than 24 hours. 9/10 rating.

This book, for me, was amazing and gripping and so enchanting until it just wasn't anymore. I'm not exactly where it turned from being a story so mesmerizing and so untouchable to becoming awkward and weird and no longer comprehensible.

In every relationship there are those who bring out the best in us. Those who make us need to achieve a higher level of ourselves. And I loved that aspect of the story. And the flirting with suicide added an element of danger. But some things were okay to the one main girl while other things were not and those choices didn't make any sense to me. I was disappointing in the ending as well. Which actually is a common theme among this genre, the absent parents or parents who are so out of touch they just don't matter, so why not end it the book ended?

Ive recommended this to several people hoping to gain a new perspective on this tale, but it always falls just short of true greatness.
