Review: The Rest of Us Just Live Here by Patrick Ness
I've only read The Walking Chaos trilogy by Patrick Ness. I haven't read anything by him other than the trilogy. The trilogy is super good to be compared to this one. The Rest of Us... is a bit dry, I would say. That's because the lack of details and also, no emotional attachment to the characters, I guess.
Not that I'm saying it's not a good read. It is, indeed. But, if you are looking for something with more feelings in it, you probably do not want to read this one. But, let's say you just finished a high fantasy book, an action packed one, you probably gonna like this very much. It feels like it is capable of soothing your mind and make you feel "more humane?" I'm not sure what's the right word to use. But, yes, that's how it feels for me. It really does make me feel "more humane".
Most probably because it has very understandable writing and the characters are just so relatable. I love them all! They make you feel like they are real and normal. You can totally relate to them because they are just normal teenagers, trying to graduate. And after all, we're not the chosen one. I totally got to relate to the characters.
The element of fantasy is not enough for me. I need MORE! Like, seriously. I want to understand more about the world they are livin' in. While writing this, I can tell you that my heart aches for more details of what's going on in the town.
Okay. This book is just so beautiful! All the quotes. All the conversations make SO MUCH SENSE! It feels good to know that sometimes, books really talk to our souls. This book just hit you at all the right places. At least, that's what happened to me. And, it is so funny too! The way the whole world is being communicated to you at first feels like a friend is telling you a story. It feels nice.
The combination of fantasy and real life situations is a bit weird to me, but however, it doesn't feel 'off' at all. Patrick Ness is really good with this one. Combining things until it doesn't feel ridiculous, although it is ridiculous.
I love the plot twist. I didn't see it coming. In fact, I don't think I see what's coming at all. Things just keep on coming, you can't predict anything! That's good, you know. However, I can say that I'm not that surprised. Maybe because I'm rushing to finish the book I didn't feel too shocked. I think that's what happened to me.
So, if you ask me do I like this one, yes is the answer. But absolutely not my favorite. I'm sorry. It's good, just, not THAT good. Get it?

What is grief, if not love persevering?
Grief is just love with no place to go.
