The Merchant of Death [Pendragon Series Book 1] - DJ McHale

Bobby Pendragon had a normal life of a middle school kid. He played on his junior high school basketball team, hung out with his geeky best friend Mark, had his family and dog Marley, and had a crush on the coolest girl in school (who liked him back!) However things all changed one day when his Uncle Press came to his house and told him that he needed Bobby's help in rescuing people. From that day forward Bobby's life would never be the same.

Uncle Press told Bobby that he was a traveler, and there was only one for every territory. The place that Bobby called home was technically "second Earth" and suddenly he was made aware that he could travel through time and space. He flies through the fluum with his Uncle and they land on a far away territory called Denduron that is on the verge of a civil war, and it is up to Bobby and Press to help the people of this three-sunned territory to figure out a way to live in a state of harmony.

This is a cool adventure and a great start to the series. After finishing all 10 books and meeting the travelers, I can really appreciate the small hints that were thrown into this book. However, there was a discrepancy with Bobby being able to understand Figgis.. But I won't spoil that! I do wish that McHale was a bit more honest about things and less whiny with Bobby's character - something about it just seemed a bit forced, like he really had no recollection of being 14. Would definitely recommend reading for those into young adult, dystopian, and science fiction!

Oh man, this was one of my absolute favourite series growing up. I received the first one for my birthday one year and that was that! I`ve been meaning to reread the series at some point, though I don`t know where my copies went and I can't condone buying them again. Maybe the library has them...
