Valena Santalin was minding her business when she witnessed an act of brutality that shook her. When the men responsible for the act of brutality showed up in front of her door, she had no idea just how much her life was about to change.

Taken from everything she knew and plunged into a world of uncertainty, secrets and new discoveries appeared at every corner. It became evident that she had much to learn. With no idea who to trust, she must learn to find strength in herself and navigate new challenges to save herself and all those depending on her. But the danger was closer than she thought. Was she strong enough, or were the forces against her too much to handle? We'd discover how Lena's story unfolded in Chaos and Curses by C.W. Smidt.

I loved the way this story was written. The author captured my attention from the start until the end. There was no dull point. I was entirely carried along in the story. The author's writing style was open and engaging, leaving me engrossed in the story. The book moved quite quickly. With the easy way it flowed, I finished it in one sitting.

The characters were relatable and real. I could easily understand their struggles at different points and share their sorrows and joys. Each character was unique, woven into the storyline with clear-cut roles. The dialogue felt natural and not forced. This was my favorite aspect of the book.

The storyline may have been a little cliche because the "chosen one" and "bad guys vs. good guys" ideas frequently occur in fictional books. However, the author's execution was admirable, and she added unique elements that made the story stand out.

The "universe," the world these characters exist, was perfectly described and uncomplicated. There were no superfluous details to confuse me; I focused entirely on the story. I also admired how the author was able to close this storyline while starting another simultaneously, creating suspense that would have readers wanting to know how it would unfold and eagerly anticipating the next installment in this series.

The only thing I dislike about this book is that it has a lot of errors. It is enough to reduce the quality of reading. The book needs another round of editing.

The book will appeal more to young people. I love the book, the storyline, and the writing. However, I can't give it a perfect rating because of the errors. Therefore, I rate it 4 out of 5 stars and recommend it to lovers of young adult fantasy.

There are so many cliché plots these days. From reading just the first 30 pages of the book, you'd be able to tell that the good guys will probably win the fight, the chosen one is the protagonist yada yada. I love how thrilling the book seems though. I can imagine a serial killer whom I witnessed killing and has no idea that I did witness his crime appearing in front of my door. That would frighten me.

There are indeed many cliche plots nowadays. The best thing is that they are delivered in a diversity of interesting styles.
