Book Review: Strands of Bronze and Gold *Spoilers*

Post by Rachel Christina »

Hello everybody,

This is my official first book review that I am writing online to a public audience so I apologize in advance if it is a little rough.

I have read this book a few times now but I chose to write a review on it because I still consider it a pretty good damn book. It is called "Strands of Bronze and Gold" by Jane Nickerson.

Who has ever heard of the Bluebeard fairy tale? If you have that is great but if you haven't, then your reaction to this book will be about the same as mine was; this book is a retold version of the old fairy tale (which I did not realize, I thought it was just another simple romance novel but wow was I wrong.)

Just to help out those who are interested to know, the Bluebeard fairy tale is about a nobleman who has a past of marrying many women who have all disappeared. He then meets a young girl who he wants to marry, and she agrees. Now of course this woman is not like the other past wives; she is a curious person. You could kind of think of her like Belle from Beauty and the Beast if you know what I mean (VERY curious person). When Bluebeard leaves her with his house keys and leaves for a business trip, this young girl decides to use them to search for clues about his past and she ends up finding his missing wives...dead. He finds out and tries to kill her but with the help of her sister; they kill him first. And they all live happily ever after with the wife inheriting Bluebeard's fortune.

Now that I am done giving you the background on the old fairy tale, I am sure by now you can figure out what this book of mine is about. It has of course the same storyline but with different characters, different setting and a different overall atmosphere. I have to admit, if I knew what this book was really about, I would not have touched it to begin with but the book cover made me think of a completely different kind of story...one thing I did learn from this experience: NEVER JUDGE A BOOK BY ITS COVER!

This was one of the weirdest books I have ever read but it has actually become one of my favorites. I first read it one night when I was on a camping trip and reading it in front of the campfire gave me shivers throughout the book and it was more exhilarating than creepy and scary. Even though I basically told you the whole storyline of the book; I would 100% recommend anyone to read this book. It is quite out there but one day I would love to experience that weird feeling with another book as I experienced with reading this book

THANKS FOR READING! :D :techie-studyinggray: :D
