This book trilogy quickly climbed my list of favorites. It is filled with characters that I found myself connected to long after I finished the trilogy. It's a perfect blend of adventure, action, and romance that kept me from putting the books down. We start in a post-apocalyptic New York. Things have gotten so bad that almost all civilization is underground, a long life means living to your twenties, and you fight Freaks. The story starts with an unnamed girl, in this society you do not get a name or role until you are fifteen and it is pretty simple you are a Builder, Breeder, or Hunter. When our protagonist turns fifteen she is given the name Deuce and becomes a Huntress. Hunters do almost exactly what you would expect, they find food, but this is no their only job they also defend the group or Enclave from the Freaks. I won't go into the details of these Freaks because it is really something you must read to get the full picture. Anyway, these hunters all have a partner to watch their back and Deuce certainly gets an interesting one a young hunter: Fade. Fade is different than anyone one in the Enclave; he lived above ground or Topside as a child a fact that will come in more handy than either of them knows. The Freaks were just monsters, but now they are becoming more organized, but the leaders and elders of the Enclave refuse to acknowledge it so when Fade and Deuce warn them - they are exiled. So now, Deuce who has lived below ground her entire life must learn to survive in the sun alongside her newfound Topside friend and amongst the dangers that can lurk even in the daylight.
