Official Review: Liars, Inc by Paula Stokes (Spoilers)

Post by Skoraeus »

This book is amazing. Totally hooked me beyond words. I was totally bewildered when I finished reading the book. It was set in the setting of a high school environment. That's the first point that got me sucked into this roller coaster thrill. It could be associated to the Next Gone Girl, but Liars, Inc, completely made its own mark in the Young Adults, mystery yet suspenseful thriller.

The story begins with Max Cantrell, a high school senior who resorts to setting up a 'Deceptive Corporation' to rake in serious cash. It all started with a small lie, that eventually snowballed into a big massive lie, that threatens to take everything from Max. His girlfriend, best friend, his family, and his life. You're probably wondering, how could a small lie evolve to something so frightening? I have the same thoughts as well, at some point of time, I even had the perception that the storyline of this book would backfire terribly. But I was so wrong. This book surpassed even my wildest dreams! Out of so many authors I followed, I could easily and confidently state that I have read over a hundred books. And this not only ranked in the top few 'favourites' list, this is the best book that I have came across in the hundreds that I read from, and I strongly recommend it to anybody that's interested in a crime thrill.

Somehow as the plot moves along, Max found himself in serious trouble. He was a normal guy, a normal teenager with everything, how did he end up being pursued by cops? Who looked at him with disgust? How did his best friend ended up 'dead?' Why was he blamed for the murder of Preston (His best friend) What actually went wrong? His life went downhill in the course of few days, and that shook him badly. What have the well respected, senator Dewitt that was running for presidential election got to hide?

What have Max's friend and girlfriend been hiding all along? What are the secrets that they hid, so impactful that's enough to render him in a state of confusion, shock, pain. This book not only reflects on the pragmatism of life, but also the serenity of it all. To cherish little things all around ya, babysitting, being loved by your adopted family, and how a single unconscious move triggered the entire incident.

His friend Preston (Senator's son) was 'dead'. What really happened to him? Did he get himself embroiled in some political agenda? Was he really who he seems to be? A rich and nice kid, the popular kid that was sought by different walks of life? Or beneath that appearance lies a demon hidden in within. All the evidence points to Max Cantrell, a kid that did nothing but kept up his lies in his testimonies, could he be eventually trusted by the cops? Would they believe his innocence? Was his girlfriend really who she seemed to be? Was Max Cantrell's life all along a lie? Liars were common, masks were displayed, would Max eventually get to the truth and get rid of that facades that were in his life? Or would he eventually sink into depression and submitting himself to the cops.

This story was unbelievably well written. One of a kind, a mystery thriller involving high school kids that have minds of a criminal. A battle of wits, a battle of scheming and prior planning to every moves they made, but who will eventually emerged as the winner? It also exploits the fragility of trust, friends and people around you. Not everybody are what they seems to be, and deep down, there's a monster, clawing and pawing his way to get out. You couldn't even see the ending coming! The author skillfully manipulated all the elements, settings in the story, making this the best mystery and thriller in history. I could say for sure, this was the best book I ever read. I would rate it four stars, I would rate it more than that if I could, four stars for this book was indeed underrated, I would strongly recommend this for people who loves the psychological thriller and mystery behind it. Liars, Inc is a master walkthrough of its own. Get ur seatbelts on and join me for this fantastic ride.

Disclaimer: It involves scheming and battle of the wits. Trust shattered and masks revealed.
