One with the People by Jack King

Post by SofiaKarin »

This should be a book for all ages, but reads well with the young adult audience, beacuse of it's straightforward language and almost saga like setting. It is also a book about something important - leadership. The approach of Dr. Jack King in One with the People, is a great inspiration for a new approach on the concept of leadership. Dr. King uses the novel form to explore the idea of bringing in timeless teachings from the traditions and culture of the 19th century American Indian ancient wisdom into the role of the leader. The teachings of the book are also connected with the 21st century corporate world. The serene form of calm conversations and ceremony is probably exactly where we need to start to take the concept of leadership further. One with the People helps us better understand that leadership has to come from the heart. It is not about stepping up on the ladder of success for ones own sake, but a service, and a privilege. First you have to become the leader of yourself. Then you can be suited to lead others, with the help of generational wisdom that works in any culture and any time.

A great read for young adults ... and their parents.
