I preferred The Selection over The Mortal Instruments. I found myself just so caught up in the whole Maxon/Mer story. However, I feel like they're both very different stories at the core, as in one happens more in a dystopian universe while the other one is more in a fantasy universe. It's been a while I haven't read either, but I just have a more fond memory of The Selection.

I have read both series before, and I much preferred The Mortal Instruments. Although The Selection is an undeniably good series, The Mortal Instruments are a unique work of art. Cassandra Cass is an amazing writer, and you really feel like you are living in the character's world, and experiencing everything the characters are. Jace and Clary are fighting for the good of the world, and their adventures are lots of fun to read. The Selection just don't bring the same amount of energy and emotion-evoking writing that The Mortal Instruments display.
