The Raven King by Maggie Steifvater

Post by Sarah_Khan »

The Raven King by Maggie Steifvater is the fourth and final book in The Raven Cycle series.
In The Raven King, we follow Ronan, Gansey, Blue, and Adam as they each learn to play their new role. The quest to find the lost king becomes more important than ever and the line between reality and dreams becomes harder and harder to recognize.
I don't want to say too much because I don't want to spoil the ending to this series. :P
All I can say is that I'm not sure how I feel after having read this book. The thing I most liked in the other books of this series is the fact that the character development was the most important part, and the plot took a backseat which was a very new concept that made me excited to read. But in this final book, everything was about the plot, loads of descriptions, and a lot of action, with very minor character development.
Personally I think the writing was great as always but the plot had a lot of problems, there were a bunch of issues that didn't get solved and a lot of irrelevant characters and story lines that seemed to only be in the plot to help push for the ending.
I also didn't appreciate the fact that Maggie Steifvater changed one of the main characters so drastically with no forewarning.
I started out this series expecting a lot because of how everyone seems to love it, but personally I think Maggie Steifvater's Shiver series and her other book called The Scorpio Races are vastly better.
