The Irish Skateboard Club by Brinn Colenda is a captivating young adult romantic thriller that is part of the Callahan Family Saga series. In this tale, we follow the journey of Michael Callahan, a young man born in Bolivia and adopted into an Irish-American family. He embarks on a semester in a Dublin high school in hopes of reconnecting with his cultural roots. However, his life takes a dark turn when he inadvertently stumbles upon a seedy mafia scheme and unveils the harrowing world of human trafficking. Frustratingly, his pleas for help fall on deaf ears with both Irish and American authorities. Undeterred, Michael assembles a team determined to confront this evil head-on.

The book's greatest strength lies in its fast-paced and thrilling storyline. Brinn Colenda expertly keeps the reader engaged from start to finish. For instance, the scene where Michael and his team strategize to thwart the trafficking of young girls is not only intense but also incredibly exhilarating. Colenda's use of language is also commendable; the dialogues are authentic and relatable, fostering a strong connection between the reader and the characters.

However, there is a drawback to the book. With a multitude of characters introduced throughout the narrative, it can be challenging to keep track of them all, potentially overwhelming some readers. For instance, when Michael's team rallies to combat the trafficking of young girls, it can become confusing to discern who is who in the ensemble.

Overall, the book offers a thrilling blend of adventure, self-discovery, and romance while shedding light on the sinister workings of a global human trafficking ring. On a personal rating scale, this book deserves 4 out of 5 stars. Its fast-paced narrative and engaging exploration of self-discovery make it a fantastic choice for young adults who relish romantic thrillers. I would like to add that I did not find any grammatical error in the text.

I wholeheartedly recommend this book to anyone who savors the world of young adult romantic thrillers. Brinn Colenda's ability to maintain reader engagement throughout the book makes it a stellar option for those in search of an electrifying read. This novel not only delivers on the promise of excitement but also invites readers to reflect on themes of cultural identity and the battle against insurmountable odds.
