The Prism Effect by J. Wint is a fantasy novel about a teenage boy who is deemed an outcast by society because of a rare medical condition that no one understands. Jet Stroud suffers from ephebus mortem, which causes glowing eyes, hallucinations, and supposedly death by age 24. Growing up an orphan, Jet never knew all the details of his condition. All he knew was that his glowing eyes made everyone dislike him. But after being accepted into Skylight University, Jet finds hope of being accepted by his peers and finally living a normal life. That is until he learns about the side effects of his condition and starts searching for a cure. Jet's search unravels far more than he expected as he uncovers secrets and conspiracies about people with ephebus mortem.

The author did a great job developing all the characters. I was able to connect and relate to multiple characters. I liked witnessing the friendships that blossomed throughout the book. I felt each character played an important role. I enjoyed learning about all their backstories and how they impacted Jet in his journey.

I thoroughly loved this story. Wint was amazing at explaining all the details and technological aspects of the book. He was very knowledgeable and organized in his writing. All the characters and events were easy to follow. I could imagine the story like a movie playing in my head. I thought the concept of the Skylight System was different. The author incorporated many plots and themes, which kept me engaged from beginning to end. I liked Wint's take on light vs dark or good vs evil. I thought how the author intertwined this concept between Jet, his friends, colors, art, and ephebus mortem was masterfully done. I believe The Prism Effect is a unique story, and I am excited to read the next installment.

I rate this book a 5 out of 5. There is nothing that I disliked about this story. This book is professionally well-edited. I discovered only one error.

I recommend this novel to readers who love futuristic fantasy, which includes space and technology. This book has plenty of action, adventure, suspense, and shock factors. There is no profanity or sexual content, making it suitable for young readers and above.
