Robyn Hood: Outlaw Princess by John Reynolds is a fresh take on the classic Robin Hood but with a fun twist. This is a quick, entertaining young adult novel that everyone is sure to enjoy. Personally, I found it to be one that I could not put down.

Robyn is a seventeen years old girl living an ordinary boring life. She thinks things can't sink any lower until a terrible storm strikes and she finds herself transported to another time. In this new place, Robyn discovers that she is Robyn Hood, a female outlaw leading a band of outlaw women. With each passing day Robyn is there she receives memories from different parts of her life. Her childhood, how she became an outlaw, etc. Upon raiding a large caravan moving through Sherwood Forest, Robyn discovers she has a long-lost sister.

Only one person in the band of women knows that Robyn Hood isn’t really Robyn Hood. From the time Robyn is there to the time she gets transported home, Willow, a seer of sorts, gives her guidance and friendship. Through all this, the common theme in the book is friendship and loyalty. How having friends that have your back no matter what can affect the outcome of a situation in a positive way.

Despite the story being a novella, I thought it was well rounded. I wasn't left asking questions at the end. Which tends to be the biggest problem for me when it comes to these types of books. The main characters in the book were fleshed out enough to come to life, particularly Robyn as she is the sole main character. She was the easiest to imagine and was a character easiest to like for the temperament the author creates. Overall, this was a book I couldn’t put down once I started reading. The novella appeared to be professionally edited. I only found a hand full of errors towards the end and those could be easily fixed.

Robyn Hood: Outlaw Princess by John Reynolds is happily awarded a 4 out of 4 stars. This Young Adult novella puts a fresh twist on the classic, intertwines a little romance and even a little mystery. If you have the time to check out this novel, I suggest you do. Out of all the redone classics I have delved into this is one of the freshest I have come across. Unique to being a Young Adult Novella it lacks the big romance theme similar to others I have read. I would definitely check out more of this author’s work.

Great review, TrishaAnn92! I love the idea of a new twist on the Robin Hood tale with a female Robyn Hood. When books pull you right in that you find yourself unable to put down, you know you've found a winner. Great job on the review and I'm glad you enjoyed the read. :)

Sounds like a great twist on the classic! It's refreshing to see a YA without the romance aspect.

I have recently fallen in LOVE with twists on classic fairy tale type storylines. This story sounds absolutely wonderful. It is right up my alley. You did a great job of describing it and I am dying to read it now. I will say I was slightly depressed after I saw that it was a novella. I'm betting you were dying for more!

Oh yes! When it ended all I could think about were all the different ways it could have gone. It was a really good read though.

The female version of Robyn Hood? How cool! Not sure it is for me, but I am glad you enjoyed it that much. It certainly sounds like a nice tale. Great job on the review!

Great review! It sounds like a fresh take on the usual YA novels. I love medieval tales and can't wait to read this one.

So much fun! I love when authors put a twist on a classic story, especially when it's geared toward YA! It allows kids to fall in love with reading classic stories because they are able to relate to the text, and they still learn the lessons behind it! Great review!

Wonderful review!! I really enjoy a book that has a strong female character and to have the legendary Robin Hood transformed for a female character is truly exciting. I can't wait to read.
