Art Lionson's novel Woodland: Family Portrait tells a captivating story centred around the theme of family and the challenges they face when their younger sister becomes ill and they struggle to cover the medical expenses. The family is forced to take on various jobs to make ends meet, but their lives take unexpected turns, especially for the brothers.

The novel opens with the Woodland family experiencing job loss at the garage. Set in a future where AI and robots have replaced most human jobs, opportunities are scarce. The family's struggles lead the brothers to take desperate measures in order to support their sister and family, resulting in disastrous consequences that ultimately alter their lives. Join the brothers as they strive to protect their family and conquer the challenges they encounter. What will this mean for their family's future?

This book has a lot of great qualities. One thing that really drew me in was the book cover. It's not often that a cover gets credit, but this one really caught my eye and I'm glad it did. The colours, images, and title all came together in a captivating way. The genre of the book is thrilling, and I'm a big fan of that. The dialogue is simple, clear, and really draws you in. I could really feel the emotions of the brothers and their sister, Mia. The language used is mostly clear, but there were a few fancy words that threw me off a bit. The author's descriptions of places and emotions were incredibly detailed, making it easy to imagine and get excited about the story. The characters were well-developed, and I especially enjoyed seeing the growth of the brothers as they did everything they could to help their family.

In terms of drawbacks, I feel compelled to address the language used in this book. While I appreciated the eloquence and style, I encountered a few instances that gave me pause. Words like 'melodicious' and 'distinctive' prompted me to consult Google for their meanings, which momentarily disrupted my reading flow. However, aside from these minor hiccups, I thoroughly enjoyed the book. It's worth noting that I didn't come across any glaring errors, so I believe it has been professionally edited.

I give this book 5 out of 5 stars. The drama in this story is absolutely gripping, drawing you in from the very first page. Every element of the book is fantastic, and I'm eagerly anticipating more works from this talented author. It's evident that a great deal of passion, meticulous planning, and deep thought went into crafting this suspenseful masterpiece, which is sure to captivate a wide audience. This book is a must-read for those who crave high levels of suspense, drama, and enthrallment.
