In the novel The Crystilleries of Echoland by Dew Pellucid, many children have disappeared, and only one has ever returned: twelve-year-old Will Cleary. When seeing his parents agonize over finding his twin sister becomes too much for Will to bear, he decides to take matters into his own hands. With the help of his lifelong pets, a falcon named Damian and a wolf named Deá, Will has to find a way back into the mysterious world he escaped ten years ago. After withstanding an attack on his home and his parents, Will has to race to find the portal to another world before his adventure ends before it even begins.

In Encholand, Will discovers not only that the children that have disappeared were stolen but also that his life is in danger. This leads Will to assume someone else’s identity to escape the antagonist’s spies. While undercover in Echoland’s orphanage for the stolen children, “sounds,” Will has to team up with his “echo,” a transparent reflection of himself that is the prince of this strange land. Together with Will’s best friend and magician, Peter, they face many obstacles to bring Will’s twin home and decide who to trust to save the mysterious land from an unhinged tyrant with eyes and ears everywhere.

Although The Crystilleries of Echoland by Dew Pellucid is a well-written adventure and a fantastic coming-of-age fantasy mystery that I recommend to any young reader, it must be clarified. This confusion could lead to some rereading of the chapters to clear up the confusion. However, the author does a fantastic job using imagery, personification, and similes to immerse readers. With a well-developed plot and characters, it is easy to fall into this well-written magical world and root for the loyal and lovable protagonist. Also, a shout-out to the editor because I did not find one single error in the novel! Overall, I would give The Crystilleries of Echoland by Dew Pellucid five stars out of five.
