Jennifer Blyth’s debut novel in the YA genre, Escaped the Night, is about a girl that just lost everything only to find out that there is more in this world than just humans. Also, she may be the key to uniting immortals from being at odds for centuries. In this fast-paced paranormal romance, you will discover good versus evil as well as a love that will be tested by unbelievable obstacles.

The story starts out with Shanntal going over to a friend’s house to stay the night. When her friend’s parents take her home, they know something is not right. She calls 911 and by the time the police get there they find Shanntal’s family and her friend’s parents murdered inside the house. After the funeral, her aunt and uncle invite her to come live with them in Blackwood. When Shanntal thinks she is finally ready to start getting back out in the world, she meets Jayce. Jayce is a keeper that takes care of the elementals. Jayce introduces Shanntal to the elementals, and that is when she learns that there are immortals in the world. On top of this, Daray, a vampire, is after Shanntal and will stop at nothing to have her by his side. Will Shanntal be able to unite the immortals and end the fighting?

In the story, there are some ups and downs between Shanntal and Jayce’s relationship, but what relationship doesn’t. I would have liked a little more backstory where Jayce was concerned, but the information you get is enough to understand the story. Blyth uses her daughter’s name, Shanntal, as the main character in the book and I thought that was a unique idea.

I enjoyed the aspect of the immortals, in that she split them into daywalkers (good) and nightwalkers (evil). The author adds a uniqueness to the story by creating a destination for the immortals when they meet their destiny. Overall, the book had a good flow, and the author creates strong main characters and supporting characters.

I rate, Escaped the Night, a 3 out of 4 stars. I would have rated this book 4 stars if there would have been a little more backstory on Jayce as well as some of the other immortals. This book does not end in a cliffhanger, but I did have some lingering questions at the end. I recommend this book to anyone who would enjoy a paranormal romance story.

Awesome review. I also liked the concept of Daywalkers and Nightwalkers even though it is not that original.

This sounds like a pretty good paranormal romance. I agree that it would be even better if there was some backstory to the characters. It helps to make them more relatable to readers.

Great Review! ?

Thanks for the review on this book. I like that you mentioned that there are different types of immortal beings as in the jaywalkers and nightwalkers. It's also an interesting concept to have a destination for the immortals after they meet their destiny. Sounds like a good read.

It sounds pretty interesting. It's too bad there isn't more information given about the characters. Still, I might have to look into it. Thanks for the review!
