“DUMB ORPHANS”

The book “Dumb” Orphans, by Allan Low was a great read! It was very motivating, captivating, and heartfelt! It was an awesome story line!

The author Allan Low tells a magnificent story about seven orphans who live in Bundami Valley, Africa. The seven orphans call themselves “the Bundu Bunch.” Differently, Nkosi Meyego, the headman who was appointed to be community leader of the Bundami community, calls the orphans “dumb orphans” because they are a burden to the community. Also, the orphans do not know how to read, write or do mathematics. Nkosi Meyego carries a special briefcase that contains the Bundami community, which is a symbol of his authority.

The author Allan develops Nkosi Meyego’s character as mean, selfish, and discriminatory against orphans. Among other selfish acts, Meyego withholds the tasty buns from the orphans they crave. However, this motivates the Bundu Bunch to get more and win! In Nkosi Meyego’s eyes, the orphans were only good enough to fetch water, firewood, and look after cattle in his fields for Meyego’s family. As time goes by, Nkosi Meyego learns valuable lessons about the Bundu Bunch!

After the deaths of the orphans’ mothers’ due to illness, they were given to a head orphan by the name of Aiyasha. She was their leader, and the Bundu Bunch became a family. Aiyasha carries a special briefcase too. The first task was educating the Bundu Bunch in reading, writing, and mathematics. This will eliminate the terrible name given to “dumb orphans.” Also, Aiyasha distributed from her briefcase a spirit of nurturing, love, motivation, determination, and positive thoughts for the tasks ahead for the Bundu Bunch. They became an unstoppable team.

This book is well-written and contains a very positive message for its target audience. It promotes strategy, communication, the setting of goals and tasks, analyzing feedback, networking, and all aspects of leadership. This book contains no errors, and it has no profanity or sexual content. Because this book has no errors, I would like to change my rating to 4. I believe all children should read this book! It was fantastic!

This book is rated a 4!
