Title: GRIM DAZE
BOOK TWO
Author: D R Martin

When I read this book, I felt like I was on the set of a fantastic movie production. As I turned the pages, I read about mice involved with surveillance, a griffin attacking a falcon that is a wolf, a likeable blacksmith named Bolder, bighorn sheep who negotiate the steep slopes of Grimsland, and much more. It has the feel of stories such as 'The Lord of the Rings' and 'Fantastic Beasts' and really does seem larger than life.

The likeable wizard Grim and his extensive family of wolves (sometimes they turn into different animals) are on a mission to deter the hoomans and keep the peace. Along the way, we meet the kings of various kingdoms, such as King Thane Standish of Calderaun and his navy. The hoomans are invading lands that do not belong to them and bring hate and distrust with them. It's a parody of the actual situation on our planet, in my eyes!

I recommend reading the first book in the series before this edition. Without having read Book One, I found it quite challenging to get into the story. There are a large number of characters and places with small sub-stories going on at the same time, so there is a lot to digest. I only hope that it's manageable for children to understand and that some of them don't lose interest and, therefore, put the book down.

D R Martin has worked hard to develop a beautiful, dazzling story that creates a slightly prehistoric or 'different world' feel. I found using animals and dragons as the main protagonists lovely, with the occasional illustration to give the reader context and break up the prose. Excellent editing and my enjoyment of the read prompted me to award five out of five stars. I hope that it will be made into an epic movie sometime in the future. I also really liked the cover illustration, and found nothing to dislike in the book.
